Hero Police Dog Pyper Helps Nab Car Thief in Northamptonshire

A hero police dog has helped officers arrest a suspected car thief who rammed a police vehicle in Northamptonshire before attempting to flee on foot.

The dramatic uk/topic/chase/">chase unfolded last night when officers from Northants Police pursued a cloned stolen vehicle, which had been taken from another county. As police moved in, the driver deliberately rammed a police car before abandoning the vehicle and making a run for it.

However, Police Dog (PD) Pyper and a drone operator were quickly deployed to track the suspect. Pyper’s powerful scent-tracking abilities led officers to a nearby garden, where the suspect was attempting to hide.

With support from Northants Road Policing Team (RPT), the suspect was swiftly arrested and taken into custody.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police Dogs Section (@northantsdogs) praised PD Pyper’s efforts, saying:
“Another outstanding job by our four-legged crimefighter! The suspect thought he could escape, but Pyper had other plans. Thanks to our drone operator and dedicated officers, we ensured they didn’t get away.”

The suspect remains in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Police have not ruled out additional charges related to dangerous driving, vehicle theft, and assaulting a police officer.

Residents in the area praised the officers and PD Pyper, with many taking to social media to commend the canine hero.
