A large-scale investigation is underway in Edinburgh following a spate of serious criminal incidents, including firearm discharges and a suspicious fire, prompting a robust response from Police Scotland as concern grows across the city.
The probe, which escalated after multiple incidents on Thursday and Friday (March 20–21), has mobilised specialist units and detectives in a bid to identify and apprehend those responsible for what police believe may be gang-related violence.
Coordinated Police Response Intensifies
A dedicated investigation team, supported by officers from both divisional and specialist units, is leading the response. Police Scotland confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed, and door-to-door enquiries are ongoing in the affected communities.
One user posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday:
“Police are continuing to appeal following several linked fires and shooting incidents. People are worried — this isn’t normal.”
Another user described the situation as a “gang war in our city,” echoing widespread concern that violence is escalating in Edinburgh’s neighbourhoods.
Appeal for Information
Police Scotland is continuing to urge anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage from the affected areas to come forward. The public’s cooperation is seen as a vital component in helping officers bring those responsible to justice.
Anyone with relevant information can contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting the appropriate incident reference, or report anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police Scotland Reaffirms Commitment
Superintendent Gillespie reiterated the force’s commitment to community safety:
“We understand the concern and fear these incidents cause. We will not tolerate this level of violence in our communities, and we are working tirelessly to hold those responsible to account.”
