A major search and rescue operation was launched this afternoon (March 31) after reports of a child falling into the River Thames in Woolwich.

The incident occurred just before 2:01 pm on Monday 31st March 2025

Swift Multi-Agency Response

Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and the RNLI, responded promptly to the incident. The Police Boat and the RNLI Hart Team joined the search, working alongside specialist water rescue teams to locate the child.

The coordinated response included launching rescue boats from nearby points on the river, combing the riverbanks, and using thermal imaging equipment to scan the water.
