A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a reported shooting on the Headlam Green estate in Byker, Newcastle, on Wednesday, 16 October. Police and paramedics were called to the scene after a man in his 40s was found with injuries believed to have been caused by a firearm.
The injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment, and Northumbria Police have confirmed that his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Armed police, along with police search dogs, were seen in the area, and a cordon was reportedly established near the Stags Head pub as investigations began.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:
“At around 1:50 PM today, we received a report of a disturbance in the Headlam Green area of Byker. Emergency services attended the scene where they found a man with injuries consistent with having been caused by a firearm. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
