Murder Investigation Launched After Man Killed in Douglas, Near Lanark

 

A murder investigation is underway following the death of 35-year-old Joe Buchanan during a disturbance in the quiet village of Douglas, near Lanark, on Saturday night.
Detective Inspector Mark McGraw, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, is leading the murder inquiry.

“We believe this was a targeted attack, and there is no wider threat to the public. Everything is being done to trace those responsible.”

Inspector Mark Chivers added:

“We know this incident will cause concern within the local community, and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days. Please speak to officers if you have any concerns or information that could help us.”

Appeal for Information

Police are conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV from nearby properties and public spaces. Officers are appealing specifically for anyone who was in the Springhill Street area between 8:20pm and 8:40pm on Saturday night to come forward.

They are particularly interested in:

  • CCTV footage
  • Dashcam recordings
  • Video doorbell footage
  • Witness statements

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident reference 3207 of 13 April 2025.
Alternatively, you can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

An online portal has also been set up to allow the public to submit footage or information directly to investigators.

As the investigation continues, the village of Douglas is left mourning the loss of a local man, while authorities work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
