New Deputy District Commander for Isle of Wight Policing Introduced

Chief Inspector Andy McDonald has been appointed as the new Deputy District Commander for policing on the Isle of Wight, supporting Superintendent Rob Mitchell. McDonald, who began his career with the Constabulary in 2002 following his service in the RAF, returns to his roots after spending the last 16 months leading police teams in Portsmouth.

During his time in Portsmouth, McDonald was instrumental in managing the police response to urban street gangs and working collaboratively with key partners to protect vulnerable individuals. Now, with a wealth of experience, he returns to his hometown, having attended Medina High School, and is determined to make a positive impact on policing the Isle of Wight.

McDonald expressed his commitment to delivering exceptional local policing, with a focus on safeguarding vulnerable residents, including children and cracking down on violence and drug-related crimes that threaten the community.

It’s good to be back on the Isle of Wight,” said McDonald, “and I’m committed to using all of my experience and local knowledge to prioritise delivering exceptional local policing, putting victims first, and relentlessly pursuing criminals operating on our Island.

McDonald’s return is part of the broader mission to maintain safety and security on the Isle of Wight, ensuring the well-being of all residents.
