Pirates Of The Caribbean Actor Tamayo Perry Dies After Shark Attack While Surfing in Hawaii

Lifeguard and surfing instructor Tamayo Perry, who appeared in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, tragically died on Sunday afternoon after being attacked by a shark off Oahu in Hawaii. The 49-year-old actor was surfing near Goat Island when the incident occurred, according to Honolulu’s emergency services.

The attack was reported by a caller who noticed a man suffering from what appeared to be shark bites. Emergency services arrived at Malaekahana Beach just before 1 pm local time. Rescuers brought Mr. Perry to shore by jet ski, where paramedics pronounced him dead, said Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

Tamayo Perry was a well-respected lifeguard on the North Shore, beginning his career with the Ocean Safety department in July 2016. He was also a professional surfer known worldwide and a surfing instructor beloved by his students.

Mr. Perry’s acting career included roles in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and Blue Crush. His presence both on screen and in the water left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Acting Honolulu Ocean Safety chief Kurt Lager praised Mr. Perry, stating, “Tamayo was a lifeguard loved by all. He’s well known on the North Shore. He’s a professional surfer known worldwide. Tamayo’s personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.

Honolulu mayor Rick Blangiardi called Mr. Perry’s death “a tragic loss,” adding, “Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected.

Following the attack, Ocean Safety personnel posted shark warnings in the area to ensure the safety of other beachgoers.

Tributes have been pouring in for the “legendary waterman,” reflecting the profound loss felt by the community and the many lives he touched throughout his career.
