A police officer in Wiltshire required hospital treatment after being deliberately struck by a car while on duty in the late hours of last night.

The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. when the officer, conducting mobile patrol in a marked police car along Conscience Lane in Wiltshire, observed a vehicle parked in a field. Upon approaching the vehicle to investigate, the officer attempted to engage with the occupants.

However, instead of complying, the driver of the vehicle chose to evade the officer, accelerating away and intentionally colliding with the officer in the process.

The impact left the officer injured, necessitating medical attention. Fortunately, following treatment at the hospital, the officer has been discharged and is expected to recover at home.

Duty Superintendent Conway Duncan characterized the incident as “significant,” emphasizing that the driver of the vehicle had deliberately harmed an officer carrying out their duties.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with their ongoing investigation.

The deliberate targeting of Police officers while in the line of duty is a matter of grave concern, highlighting the risks faced by those tasked with maintaining public safety. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and help ensure that those responsible for this reprehensible act are brought to justice.
