Residents in Beckenham were left alarmed after reports emerged of a group of males allegedly wielding knives at a popular local park.
The incident unfolded at Croydon Road Recreation Ground around 6:30 pm on May 3, prompting a swift response from Police.
According to Metropolitan Police reports, concerned members of the public alerted authorities to the presence of individuals carrying knives within the park premises.
Upon receiving the distressing calls, officers promptly attended the scene, where they apprehended one male suspect on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
The individual in question has since been released under police investigation as inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the alarming incident, offering a sigh of relief amidst the concerning events.
In a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police, a spokesperson confirmed the details of the incident, reiterating the ongoing nature of the investigation.
“Police were called at approximately 18:30hrs on Friday, 3 May by members of the public reporting a group of males in possession of knives in Croydon Recreation Ground in Beckenham,” the spokesperson stated.
They added, “No reports of any injuries at this time. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
