A teenage girl was rescued from the sea near Brighton i360 in an operation by Brighton RNLI lifeboat, Brighton Seafront Team, Newhaven, and Shoreham coastguard teams, following reports of a person in difficulty. The emergency unfolded at approximately 2 PM, prompting a rapid response from multiple rescue agencies.

Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) were immediately mobilised to assist with the situation. Members of the Brighton seafront beach patrol, already on scene, were crucial in reaching the 14-year-old and aiding her safe return to the shore.

Upon being rescued, the young girl was transported to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and has been detained under the Mental Health Act for assessment and necessary treatment.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman highlighted the coordinated rescue effort: “Emergency services responded to a report at around 1pm, April 26 that a person had entered the sea on Brighton Seafront. At just after 2pm, a 14-year-old girl was pulled from the water and detained under the Mental Health Act. She has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

Further, a spokesperson for HM Coastguard added their perspective on the joint operation: “We assisted Sussex Police with an incident at Brighton Beach this afternoon.”
