The family of a young woman who died in a dog attack in Surrey has spoken out about her death. The 28-year-old woman was mauled to death on Thursday, January 12, and her identity has not yet been released.
The animals attacked the woman in Caterham, Surrey. She allegedly worked as a professional dog walker. Following the incident, Surrey police detained eight dogs, and detectives are keeping the owners updated on the investigation while the animals are still being held.
The victim’s family has expressed their deep sadness at the unexpected loss of their loved one. “This is an extremely difficult time for us, and on top of dealing with this sudden loss in our family, the significant level of media interest and the graphic nature of some of the reporting has been a source of additional distress,” they said in a statement. We continue to request that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
The dogs were being exercised on a bridle path near Caterham when they were attacked. Police are conducting tests to determine which of the detained dogs bit the victim. Police issued an update yesterday (Tuesday, January 17), stating that they were collaborating with both a forensic pathologist and a veterinary pathologist as part of their investigation.
