A West Yorkshire Police officer who went missing while off duty has tragically been found dead at a nature reserve in Leeds.
Charlie Mitchell, 26, was reported missing from his home in Leeds on Saturday night, prompting an urgent search operation amid growing concerns for his welfare.
Police officers discovered his body at St Aidan’s Nature Reserve at around 5.30pm on Sunday (June 22), following extensive searches in the area. Authorities have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
‘Absolutely Tragic’ Loss
PC Mitchell was a patrol officer based in Halifax, and his sudden death has sent shockwaves through the West Yorkshire Police community.
Assistant Chief Constable Robert McCoubrey said:
“Charlie’s death in these circumstances is absolutely tragic. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and will continue to provide them with support during this incredibly difficult time.
“His death has come as a terrible shock to his colleagues in Calderdale District and the wider West Yorkshire Police family. We will ensure all necessary support is in place for everyone who worked with him or knew him.”
Investigation and Support
The Coroner’s Office has been informed and will oversee any further proceedings. West Yorkshire Police is not treating the death as suspicious, and no further details about the circumstances have been released.
