Police appeal to trace man involved in attempted robbery of taxi driver

Police are appealing for help to trace a man involved in the attempted robbery of a taxi driver in Southampton. Between 3.45am and 4.45am on Saturday, October 22, a silver Vauxhall Corsa pulled up alongside a taxi on Windermere Avenue. The rear nearside passenger of the Vauxhall, who was holding a hammer, then made threats towards the 42-year-old taxi driver and demanded money. There were no injuries and nothing was taken, but the victim was left shaken by the incident. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed until Thursday, December 15. Officers are still trying to trace the passenger who threatened the taxi driver. He has been described as white and aged in his late teens to early twenties, and was holding what was described as a claw hammer with a dark rubber handle. Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that can help identify this person. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Craig Shears on 101, quoting 44160399138, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
