Police investigating the unsolved murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall from Trimley St Mary, have re-arrested serial killer Steve Wright in connection with the case.
Ms Hall was last seen alive in the early hours of Sunday, September 19, 1999, in High Road, Trimley St Mary.
The victim had left home on the evening of Saturday, September 18, to go for a night out with a friend at the Bandbox nightclub in Bent Hill, Felixstowe. They remained at the club until around 01.00 when they left to get some food at the Bodrum Grill in Undercliff Road West.
The pair parted company at around 2:20 am near the junction of High Road and Faulkeners Way, just yards from Ms Hall’s home. When her parents woke up the next morning and discovered she had not returned home, they called the police, prompting a missing person investigation.
Five days later, on Friday, September 24, Ms Hall’s naked body was found in a ditch by a dog walker in Creeting Lane, Creeting St Peter, approximately 25 miles from where she was last seen.
In September 2019, Suffolk Police announced that the case, known as Operation Avon, was being fully reinvestigated by a new team of detectives, following the receipt of fresh information.
On July 28, 2021, Steve Wright was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the investigation. He was later released under investigation after being questioned by detectives. This individual was not someone who had previously been arrested in connection with the case.
On Wednesday, December 6, Wright was re-arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody for questioning. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information about Victoria Hall’s death to come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Major Investigation Team on 101, quoting reference 37/33287/19.
