A leisurely afternoon by the River Tyne turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Saturday as a 14-year-old boy lost his life and his 13-year-old friend clings to survival after encountering difficulties while swimming in Ovingham, Northumberland.

Northumbria Police received a distress call shortly after 3:30 pm on Saturday, alerting them to the plight of two teenage boys struggling in the waters near the Ovingham bridge. Responding promptly, emergency services rushed to the scene, where one of the boys, aged 13, was successfully rescued from the river.
