Today marks a solemn occasion as we remember five-year-old Daniel Alaby, who tragically lost his life eight days ago after being found in the River Thames.
Daniel’s disappearance sparked an urgent appeal by police after he was last seen playing with his brother at his home in Thamesmead around 5:30 pm on March 29. The community rallied together in a desperate search for the young boy.
Tragically, just after 6:20 pm, officers searching for Daniel made a devastating discovery – a child in the River Thames. Swift action followed as police administered CPR until paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived. Despite their best efforts, Daniel, who is believed to be the child found, was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, he was pronounced dead later that evening.
The heart-wrenching news has left Daniel’s family and the community grappling with grief and unanswered questions. A neighbour of the Alaby family, speaking anonymously to The Sun, shared insights into the family’s anguish, revealing that Daniel’s father is “in bits.” Confusion surrounds the circumstances of Daniel’s tragic accident, as his family diligently locks their doors. The neighbour expressed bewilderment that no one saw Daniel near the river, particularly during a busy time of day. They lamented that if individuals were present while Daniel was outside alone, it would signify a failure of society to protect its most vulnerable members.
The Metropolitan Police have emphasised that there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of any other person in Daniel’s untimely passing. As the investigation continues, Daniel’s family is receiving unwavering support from police officers during this unimaginably difficult time.
Today, our thoughts are with Daniel’s loved ones as they navigate the profound loss of a cherished young life. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength during this dark hour, and may his legacy serve as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and solidarity in safeguarding our children.
