Urgent Appeal for Witnesses: Fatal Collision on A33 in Reading – UKNIP

Thames Valley Police is urgently seeking witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the A33 in Reading over the weekend.

The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 16:06 on Saturday, April 20, involving two vehicles travelling southwards on the A33 between Mereoak Park and Ride and the Wellington Country roundabout. The vehicles involved were identified as a black Astra and a blue VW Golf.

Regrettably, the driver of the Astra, a 26-year-old man from Basingstoke, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the carriageway and collide with trees. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly, but sadly, the driver was pronounced deceased. The authorities have since informed the man’s next of kin, who are currently receiving support from specially trained officers.

Additionally, the passenger, a young woman in her late teens from Reading, sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.

In connection with the incident, two men (aged 26 and 34) from Basingstoke and a woman (aged 24) from Woking have been arrested and are currently in custody pending further investigation.

Inspector Justin Thomas, from the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and underscored the importance of gathering information. He stated:

“We are conducting a thorough investigation into this tragic incident. Our thoughts remain with the family of the deceased during this difficult time. We urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dash-cam footage to come forward. Additionally, if you saw either the black Astra or the blue VW Golf, please provide any available information through our online reporting page or by calling 101, quoting reference number 43240181466.”

The police urge anyone with information to assist in their inquiries, as every detail could prove invaluable in understanding the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident and providing closure to the affected families.
