A major police cordon in Lancing has been lifted after a suspicious item was confirmed as part of a bomb hoax. The drama unfolded on Sunday afternoon, sparking a rapid and intense police response.

Assault Call Turns into Bomb Alert

Sussex Police were first called to Tower Road around 2.30pm on March 22 over an alleged assault. A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene. But things escalated when officers found a suspicious object, prompting specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to step in.

False Alarm Sparks 100-Metre Cordon

After a thorough examination, bomb experts declared the item posed no threat. The 100-metre exclusion zone around the area was lifted, allowing anxious residents to return home. The arrested man now faces additional charges on suspicion of bomb hoax offences and remains in custody.

Police Keep Watch as Residents Breathe Easier

Officers thanked locals for their patience during the tense event. A police presence remains in the area for further searches and to reassure the community.
