Emergency services were called to Brighton seafront late on Wednesday night (27 August) after reports of a person in the water east of Brighton Pier.

Brighton RNLI said they were first alerted at 23:03, with crews tasked to the scene alongside Brighton RNLI lifeboat and local Coastguard rescue teams. The casualty was confirmed safely out of the water and in the care of ambulance personnel by 11.10pm.
A full search of the area was completed before the operation was stood down at 4.39am.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:

“HM Coastguard assisted police with the response to an incident in the Brighton Beach area this morning, 28 August. Alerted at around 2.15am, Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat from Brighton RNLI and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter were sent to assist.”
