Part of the ground floor of a semi-detached house was damaged by fire. Firefighters found a man in the ground floor extension who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 11.19pm and the fire was under control by 12.24am. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Addington, Croydon and Purley fire stations attended the scene.
