Ambulance Fire Shuts Down Marylebone Road Eastbound – Investigation Underway

Default Heading H1

Marylebone Road eastbound has been closed at Cosway Street this morning after an ambulance caught fire, prompting a swift response from the London Fire Brigade.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8:15am, where thick smoke was seen billowing from the rear of the ambulance. The vehicle, which was stationary at the time, quickly became engulfed in flames.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and have since brought the blaze under control. There are no reports of injuries, and it is understood that no patients were on board the ambulance at the time of the incident.

Second Incident Involving Same Ambulance Model

Today’s fire has raised fresh safety concerns, as it marks the second time in recent weeks that an ambulance of the same make and model has caught fire in Central London. A similar incident occurred near Euston just weeks ago, prompting an internal review.

Road Closures and Traffic Disruption

Marylebone Road is currently closed eastbound between Lisson Grove and Gloucester Place, with traffic diverted via nearby routes. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays through the morning rush hour.

Transport for London (TfL) and emergency services remain on scene, and engineers are expected to assess the condition of the road surface once the vehicle is recovered.

Investigation Underway

The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and will work closely with the ambulance trust and vehicle manufacturers.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:

“We were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Marylebone Road. Crews found an ambulance alight and quickly brought the fire under control. The cause is being investigated.”

We have contacted the London Ambulance Service for comment and will provide updates as soon as they respond.
