Avoid Gatwick Drop-off Charges: Use Free Long-stay Car Parks!

Gatwick Airport has recently increased its minimum drop-off charge at its terminals from £5 to £6. This change, which came into effect on January 5, 2024, aims to reduce congestion and encourage the use of more sustainable transportation options. The airport has set a target for 60% of journeys to and from the airport to be made by “zero or ultra-low emissions” forms of transport by 2030.

To avoid paying the drop-off charges at the terminals, drivers can use Gatwick’s long-stay car parks for free, which offer shuttle buses to the terminals.

Additionally, for vehicles using the drop-off zones at both the North Terminal and South Terminal, the charges are £6 for the first 10 minutes, with an additional £1 charged for each minute thereafter. The maximum waiting time is 30 minutes, which means the maximum fee could be £25. To avoid these charges, Gatwick’s long-stay car parks allow two hours of free parking and provide a free shuttle bus service to the terminals. However, failure to pay these charges by midnight the day after the vehicle was in the zone will result in a fine of £100, which can be reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
