Car Fire Disrupts Traffic on M2 Between Junction 4 and 5 – UKNIP

A car fire on the M2 motorway between junction 4 and 5 created a temporary disruption for motorists on Wednesday, 6 September 2023.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to reports of a vehicle on fire on the busy motorway. The incident occurred at approximately 16:09, prompting the dispatch of two fire engines to the scene.

Firefighting crews, donning protective breathing apparatus, effectively extinguished the flames making use of high-pressure hose reel jets. Their prompt response helped prevent the situation from escalating further.

The initial assessment points to the car fire being the result of an engine fault. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

Responsibility for the scene was handed over to National Highways traffic Officers, who will manage any necessary clean-up or further actions required to ensure the safety of the motorway.

Although the incident caused some delays, the motorway is expected to return to normal operation in due course, allowing commuters to resume their journeys without significant disruption.

As always, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and adhere to traffic guidance when travelling through affected areas.
