Part of Millennium Way in Sheerness was closed on Tuesday evening after a car somersaulted and landed on its roof near the site of the new Home Bargains store, set to open this Saturday.
Emergency Services Respond
Emergency services were called to the scene, where they found the overturned vehicle. The crash occurred near the former Aldi supermarket, which has been converted into the Home Bargains location.
Details of the Incident
Eyewitnesses reported that the car appeared to have clipped a traffic island, causing it to flip and take out one of the new store’s signs. Despite the dramatic crash, reports indicate that the driver managed to escape unharmed.
A local resident shared on the Isle of Sheppey Traffic and Travel site:
“The driver managed to get out and was absolutely fine when I was there doing traffic control and moving the pole out of the way to allow traffic to pass safely.”
Traffic Disruption
The incident caused temporary road closures as emergency services worked to clear the scene and ensure the area was safe for traffic. Residents are advised to remain cautious when travelling through the area as debris may still be present.
Further updates are expected as more details about the crash are released.
