Car Flips Onto Roof Outside Sainsbury’s in Staplehurst

A car flipped onto its roof following a collision at a roundabout outside Sainsbury’s supermarket on Station Road, Staplehurst, this afternoon.

Emergency Services Respond

The crash occurred at around 1:50 PM, prompting a swift response from emergency services, including two fire engines and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). Firefighters rescued the driver from the overturned car, and initial reports suggest the individual was shaken but not seriously injured.

Traffic Impact

The A229 Station Road, close to Staplehurst railway station, was partially blocked for a time, causing traffic delays. While the road has since reopened, motorists are advised to drive cautiously in the area.

Witness Accounts

Witnesses at the scene described seeing a woman being pulled from the car. One said she appeared “shaken up but okay.”

Local residents expressed frustration, with one saying:

“It wasn’t a shock and was always going to happen with some of the driving in this area.”

Another commented:

“It’s the driving that is dangerous, but the roundabout definitely needs improvements.”

A third added:

“It was only a matter of time before this happened. Something needs to be done about this roundabout and speeding in the village.”

Official Statements

A Kent Police spokesperson confirmed:

“Two cars were involved, and officers and SECAmb attended. No serious injuries were reported. Police have now left the scene.”

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said:

We were called at 1:52 PM to Station Road, Staplehurst, to reports of a crash involving two cars. Three fire engines attended, and crews assisted one person out of a vehicle. One individual was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.”

Local Concerns

The incident has reignited concerns about safety at the roundabout and the speed of vehicles in the area. Many residents are calling for improvements to the roundabout and stricter measures to address dangerous driving.

While no serious injuries were reported, the crash serves as a reminder of the need for caution on local roads.
