A child is in hospital after being rescued by firefighters from a burning flat above a shop in Leyton on December 23.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued a child, who was then taken to hospital for treatment. A second person, a man, was treated and released at the scene.
The fire, which caused extensive damage to the flat, was brought under control by 8:59 PM. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Our teams acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all occupants and brought the fire under control efficiently. We wish the child a speedy recovery and will work diligently to determine the cause of the fire.
Local residents praised the quick response of emergency services. One bystander commented, “It’s heartbreaking to see something like this happen, especially so close to Christmas. I’m relieved the child was rescued in time.”
