Quick-Thinking Cops Snatch Thief

Hamza Esguioui, 28, thought he could get away with snatching a phone from a station food outlet in broad daylight. But plain clothes British Transport Police (BTP) officers were on the scene and swiftly closed the net.

Speedy Justice at Highbury Corner

Esguioui, who has no fixed address, was hauled before Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court. On Thursday 25 September, he pleaded guilty to theft. The court didn’t hang about either, sentencing him the same day.

Two Months for Theft, Four More for Suspended Sentence Breach

Esguioui was jailed for two months for the theft. That wasn’t the end of it, though. He also got a four-month sentence for offending while serving a suspended sentence related to fraud by false representation.
