Just over two weeks from now, Stuart Pearson will be pounding the trails of the New Forest, tackling a gruelling 50km ultra marathon. It’s a huge challenge for Stuart – having never run more than 15 miles before, this will be a massive test of his endurance.
From Life-or-Death Brain Injury to Ultra Marathon Training
Last year, Stuart suffered a severe brain bleed that nearly cost him his life. After emergency surgery at Southampton General Hospital and a harrowing four-hour battle for stability at Queen Alexandra Hospital, doctors weren’t sure he’d pull through.
Miraculously, Stuart made a full recovery – apart from some memory issues and fatigue when he pushes himself too hard. Now, he’s channelling that fighting spirit into training hard for December’s ultra marathon.

Racing to Support Brain Injury Charity Headway
Stuart’s running for Headway Portsmouth and South East Hampshire, a charity supporting brain injury survivors. He’s calling on the public to sponsor his run with donations big or small.
“It knocked me for six, physically and mentally,” Stuart admits. “It takes ages to recover, even if you’re lucky. I was strong and healthy before the injury, and it took months to get back to full-time work.”
He stresses the vital role of support, thanking his girlfriend, family, and friends for being there. But he also highlights that many don’t have that support, making Headway’s work crucial.
Help Stuart Make a Difference
If you can spare a few quid or just want to share his story, Stuart’s ultra marathon journey could help change life for those battling brain injury recovery.
