Former Metropolitan Police Officer Accused of Rape Threatened Victim with Stabbing, Court Hears

A former Metropolitan Police officer facing trial for multiple counts of rape allegedly tied up one of his victims and threatened to stab her, a jury at Croydon Crown Court has been told.

Cliff Mitchell, 24, residing in Toland Square, Putney, is facing 13 charges of rape, including six counts against a girl, three of which occurred when she was under the age of 13.

The court heard that in September 2023, Mitchell allegedly threatened to stab and slit the throat of one victim, prompting police intervention and the commencement of an investigation.

Prosecutor Catherine Farrelly detailed the harrowing ordeal, stating that Mitchell warned the victim that he would harm her and another individual present in the vehicle, uttering chilling words: “I don’t care about my life any more, you’ve met the devil.”

Further, when the victim expressed feeling unwell in the car, Mitchell purportedly responded with threats, saying, “If you throw up in the car, I’m gonna slit your belly for every second you throw up.”

According to Farrelly, the victim, whose hands were bound by cable ties, managed to escape when she exited the vehicle to vomit.

Mitchell faces six charges of raping a girl, including three instances when she was below 13 years old. Additionally, he is accused of seven counts of rape against another woman spanning from April 2020 to September 2023.

In addition to the rape charges, Mitchell also faces allegations of breaching a non-molestation order and two counts of kidnapping.

Throughout the trial, Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Farrelly informed the jury that Mitchell served as a Metropolitan Police officer during the latter part of the alleged offences.

The prosecution alleges that Mitchell sexually assaulted his first victim from 2014 to 2017 and continued the abuse with his second victim from 2020 to 2023.

Despite the victims’ protests, Farrelly asserted, “He forced his sexual will upon them both, time and time again.”

However, Mitchell maintains that the allegations against him are fabricated.

The trial is ongoing as further evidence is presented to the court.
