The incident occurred this evening while the ambulance was attending to a road traffic collision (RTC) alongside Hampshire Police Roads Policing Unit (@HantsPolRoads).

Details of the Incident

The ambulance was on the scene of an earlier collision when the HGV struck it. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported among the emergency service personnel or those involved in the initial RTC.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said:

“This is a stark reminder of the dangers of drink driving and the risks it poses not just to the driver but to others on the road, including emergency service workers who are there to protect the public.”

The driver is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Police are urging motorists to refrain from drink driving, particularly as the holiday season approaches, and to remain vigilant around emergency scenes.

Hampshire Police Roads Policing Unit reminded the public:

“Alcohol and driving don’t mix. If you’re drinking, don’t drive. It’s not worth risking lives.”
