A significant house fire in Herne Bay has been brought under control, with firefighting operations now complete. The fire, which started on the evening of Friday, 31 January 2025, heavily impacted a property in Grand Drive, prompting emergency services to respond with seven fire engines and a range of special support vehicles.
At the height of the incident, crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were seen battling the blaze using high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets, with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to protect themselves from the smoke. The firefighting efforts were supported by a height vehicle and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone), which helped in monitoring the scene.
Early in the operation, residents in the surrounding area were advised to close their windows and doors due to the large amounts of smoke coming from the property. Road closures were also in place near Grand Drive, but these have now been lifted following the completion of firefighting operations. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is currently under investigation.
At 3am on Saturday, 1 February 2025, crews remained on the scene to dampen down any remaining hot spots, with two fire engines still in attendance. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and residents evacuated the property prior to the arrival of emergency services.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that the area is now safe and normal operations have resumed. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with a building inspector on the scene.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any information that could assist in determining the cause of the fire.
