Police in Sussex have moved swiftly to clamp down on an illegal rave taking place in Charlton Wood, near Midhurst, north of Chichester.
The unlicensed music event was reported in the early hours of Sunday morning. Officers from Sussex Police quickly responded to prevent further attendees from reaching the site, implementing road closures in the surrounding area to restrict access.
Police have confirmed that their primary focus is public safety, both for the local community and those already at the event. Authorities are working to bring the gathering to a close safely and are investigating any offences that may have been committed, including road traffic violations.
“Our priority is ensuring the safety of the community and those in the vicinity as we assess how the rave can be closed down safely and effectively,” added Superintendent Baker. “Where offences are seen to be committed, we will take action.”
Residents in the Midhurst and Chichester areas have been advised to avoid the affected roads and remain patient as the situation is managed. Sussex Police expressed gratitude to the local community for their cooperation during the ongoing operation.
Updates will be provided as police work to dismantle the illegal event.
