Justice Served As Sex Offender William Stubbs Receives Four-and-a-half-year Sentence

William Stubbs, a 64-year-old resident of Portland Meadows, Retford, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for grooming and sexually assaulting a teenage girl. The offenses occurred between April 2017 and December 2019, during which Stubbs enticed the victim with alcohol and money.

Convicted on seven counts of sexual assault and an additional charge of causing/inciting sexual activity after a trial in September 2023, Stubbs faced justice at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, September 29, 2023. In addition to the prison sentence, he has been issued with a restraining order and is required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Detective Constable Laura Gray of Nottinghamshire Police praised the victim’s courage, stating, “I’d like to commend the courage shown by this girl in helping us with the investigation which has resulted in Stubbs being brought to account for his crimes.” She expressed hope that this conviction would provide reassurance to other victims of sexual offenses, encouraging them to report and assuring them of support from specially trained officers.

Emphasizing the commitment to child safeguarding, DC Laura Gray highlighted Nottinghamshire Police’s dedication to preventing child sexual exploitation. She assured victims that the force would support them throughout the reporting process and tirelessly investigate to bring perpetrators to justice.
