Drivers are facing major delays on the M2 coastbound carriageway this afternoon after a three-vehicle crash caused five miles of congestion and lengthy tailbacks near Faversham.
The incident, which occurred shortly before 12pm, happened between Junction 5 for Stockbury Roundabout (Sittingbourne and Maidstone) and Junction 6 for Faversham. All traffic was initially brought to a halt as emergency services responded to the crash, which involved two vans and a car.
While one lane has since reopened, long queues remain, stretching as far back as Junction 4 for Gillingham, according to National Highways. Motorists are currently facing delays of up to an hour above normal journey times.
No Injuries Reported
Kent Police confirmed that they were called to the scene at around midday. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported following the collision.
A spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the M2 coastbound at around 12pm following a multi-vehicle collision. The crash involved three vehicles and all traffic was temporarily held. No injuries have been reported.”
The lane closure remains in place as Highways teams continue to manage the scene and clear the vehicles.

Live traffic maps show significant congestion building on the approach to the crash site. Drivers heading towards the coast from Maidstone and Sittingbourne are being urged to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes.
