A serious crash between an ambulance and a car closed the M2 near Gillingham on Friday night, leaving four people injured and sparking a major emergency response.
The collision happened at around 8.55pm on Friday, 29 August, close to Junction 4 (A278 Hoath Way).

Kent Police Statement
A Kent Police spokesperson said:
“Kent Police was called at 8.55pm on Friday 29 August to a report that a car had struck an ambulance at the junction of the M2 and the A278 Hoath Way, Gillingham.
Officers are currently attending the scene alongside other emergency services.
Junctions 4 and 5 of the M2 are currently closed whilst the incident is responded to, and drivers are advised to find alternative routes.”

SECAmb Statement
The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed the ambulance was not carrying a patient and was en route to a hospital transfer when the collision occurred.

Road Closures and Investigation
Specialist Collision Investigation Unit officers, supported by NPAS and police drone teams, were deployed.
The eastbound carriageway between Junctions 4 and 5 remains closed, with National Highways warning of delays and diversions through Medway.
The road is expected to remain shut for several hours while collision investigators examine the scene and recovery work is completed.
