Crane Fire on M20 Sparks Traffic Chaos

A lane closure remains in effect on the M20 as efforts to clear the aftermath of a crane lorry fire that occurred on Friday afternoon continue. Emergency crews have been working diligently to remove the burnt-out vehicle from the scene.

The incident, which transpired on January 5, initially prompted a response from emergency services at approximately 3:45 pm. Four fire engines and crews equipped with breathing apparatus were dispatched to tackle the blaze, successfully allowing traffic to resume its flow without significant disruption.

However, the mission to clear the area and remove the remnants of the burned lorry has persisted into today. As a result, one lane of the London-bound carriageway between Junction 2 for Wrotham and Junction 1 for Swanley has been temporarily closed to facilitate the safe removal of the damaged vehicle.

Despite the lane closure, reports indicate that traffic in the area is currently being managed well, and commuters are experiencing relatively smooth travel conditions.

The incident originally transpired when the crane lorry broke down and subsequently caught fire on the hard shoulder of the M20. In response, authorities briefly halted traffic in both directions to ensure the safety of all road users and to extinguish the blaze.
