Major recovery operation on M3 after HGV overturns blocking three lanes

An overturned HGV has closed the M3 motorway within Junction 12 westbound. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. Emergency services are in attendance. It is understood that the driver has escaped serious injury. Following the incident that took place just before 10pm on Sunday evening. A major recovery operation to winch the tractor and trailer back on to it’s wheels has been launched. Police have called in recovery contractors to assist with removing the damaged vehicle. Fire crews from Eastliegh attended along with a Hart team and a paramedic and ambulance. Hampshire Police in a statement said : We were called at 9.36pm this evening (Sunday 14 January) to a report of a single-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway at junction 12. The lorry is located between the off slip road and the on slip road for the junction. Fortunately there are no serious injuries, but the lorry is on its side and there is damage to the roadside barrier. As a result, we have closed the southbound carriageway of the M3 between the off slip road and the on slip road at junction 12. There is a diversion in place at the junction. The northbound carriageway is not affected. We are working with our partners to clear the lorry and its load from the road as soon and as safely as we can. However, the road closure is likely to remain in place for some time. iframe width=”680″ height=”315″ src=”https:///uknip.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jTH_aowJ2Ck” frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen>
