Man Arrested After Assaulting Staff and Spitting at Officer at Forest Gate Station

A man has been arrested after a violent outburst at Forest Gate station earlier today that saw staff and passengers assaulted, and a police officer spat in the face.

The incident unfolded during the morning hours, according to eyewitness reports, prompting a swift response from British Transport Police (BTP). Officers attended the scene after receiving reports of a man behaving aggressively toward both station staff and members of the public.

In a disturbing escalation, the man is alleged to have spat directly at one of the attending officers, an act classified as assault on an emergency worker.

BTP confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the scene for multiple offences, including common assault and assaulting an emergency services worker. He was taken into custody where he remains under questioning.

The incident caused temporary disruption at Forest Gate, with station staff and passengers visibly shaken by the encounter. No serious injuries have been reported, although the assaulted officer is receiving medical checks in line with protocol following exposure to bodily fluids.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:

“We were called to Forest Gate station earlier today following reports of a man assaulting staff and passengers. The individual also spat at one of our officers during arrest. He has been taken into custody on suspicion of assault.”

Social media users reacted with outrage following a post by @CrimeLdn, which shared details of the incident. One user commented, “Disgraceful behaviour — no one should be attacked for doing their job,” while others praised the quick police response.
