A man in his 50s has died following an incident that forced the closure of the M2 coastbound carriageway between Junction 1 (Strood) and Junction 3 (Chatham and Rochester) in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene just before 5am after reports of concerns for the welfare of a person near the Medway Viaduct.
A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed:
“The man’s death is being treated as non-suspicious, and a report is being completed for the coroner.”
While not officially confirmed, it is believed the man may have fallen from a bridge spanning the motorway.

M2 Closure and Travel Impact
The coastbound M2 was closed for more than three hours, causing significant disruption during the morning peak. The road fully reopened around 9:20am once emergency services had completed their work at the scene.

An investigation is underway and the man’s next of kin have been informed. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and no third-party involvement is suspected.
