Following information received, officers identified a car believed to be in possession of drugs. The car, a Kia, was followed by officers and stopped heading north on M1, near Luton, on Wednesday 6 December.
A search of the car led officers to find 121 immature cannabis plants and mobile phones believed to be used in drug supply.
The driver, a 63-year-old man from Lincolnshire, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, before being taken to Chelmsford Police Station.
He has since been released on bail until 27 February 2024 whilst we continue enquiries. Detective Sergeant Mike Monkton, who leads the investigation, said:
Drugs won’t be tolerated here in Essex, but we continue to work hard to stop any cross-border activity that could bring our communities to harm. We have no border when it comes to tackling drug-related issues. I’d encourage anyone who has information about the cultivation or supply of drugs to tell us.
