Emergency services have been called to the QE2 Bridge on Christmas Day following reports of a tanker carrying a large quantity of gasoline becoming involved in an incident beneath the structure.

A contraflow system is being established to allow limited movement across the Dartford Crossing.
The incident, described as “prolonged,” has also led to the introduction of height restrictions for vehicles accessing the area while emergency teams continue their operations.
A spokesperson for National Highways said:
“We are working closely with other agencies to address the situation and ensure public safety. We advise all motorists to avoid the area if possible and follow official updates.”
National Highways has urged drivers to check for alternative routes and expect significant delays as crews work to secure the scene and assess the risks posed by the tanker.
