Residents Evacuated Following Structural Concerns at The Combe, Munster Square NW1

A significant structural issue at The Combe block in Munster Square, Regent’s Park, NW1, led to the evacuation of approximately 150 residents last night. The evacuation was prompted after a resident reported hearing a loud noise, leading to the discovery of a crack in the wall of a ninth-floor flat in the 19-story building.

Immediate Response

The London Fire Brigade was alerted on Thursday evening, November 21, and structural engineers were quickly called to assess the situation. Initially, 18 flats were evacuated, but by 10:30 p.m., Camden Council, in coordination with the fire service, decided to evacuate the entire block as a precautionary measure until more thorough assessments could be conducted.

Current Status

Specialist engineers arrived at the site early Friday morning, and their inspections indicated that the damage was confined to the reported flat. Repairs are expected to begin later today, raising hopes for a swift resolution.

Security fencing has been installed around the building, and emergency services have now left the scene. Camden Council and emergency responders are working to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate their return as soon as it is deemed safe.

Support for Displaced Residents

Of the 70 households evacuated, Camden Council provided temporary accommodation for 50 residents at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, with support from the British Red Cross. The remaining residents made alternative arrangements with family or friends. The council is providing ongoing support, including assistance with temporary housing and essential needs.
