The A259 King’s Road in Brighton will start reopening from Monday morning after urgent safety work outside the Royal Albion Hotel.
The road was closed last Friday after engineers warned that the building and scaffolding were at risk of collapsing. Since then, Britannia Hotels and their contractors have arranged for specialist equipment to be brought in to make the area safe.
What’s Happening Next?
Friday & Saturday: Work will take place to remove unstable scaffolding and demolish the parts of the building that are at risk of falling.
Sunday: The road will stay closed for the Brighton Half Marathon and to prepare it for reopening.
Monday: The southern part of the A259 will reopen with a contraflow system, allowing traffic to move in both directions.
Next Week: The council will work with Britannia Hotels and their contractors to fully reopen the road as soon as possible.
