A former Croydon BRIT School pupil has been locked up for nearly two years after being caught with extreme right-wing content on his phone. Declan George-Candiani, 26, who claims to be a Satanist and says he made a pact with a “red-horned devil”, was sentenced to 23 months at the Old Bailey last week. He must serve an extra year on licence and will be on a 10-year notification order.
Stopped at Airport with Far-Right Terror Material
Counter-terror officers detained George-Candiani at Stansted Airport on August 13, 2024. A search revealed a trove of extremist right-wing “manifestos” from mass killers, guides on lone wolf attacks, and violent white supremacist documents. Police also seized an iPad from his Streatham home, which he shared with his mother.
George-Candiani admitted he got into this material after developing an interest in a far-right group tied to “traditional Satanism.”
Police Warn of Terror Threats at UK Borders
“Analysis of digital devices revealed downloads of horrific material promoted by extreme right-wing terrorist groups,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London. “This is why ‘Schedule 7’ powers at UK ports and borders are vital for catching potential terrorists.”
During police interviews, George-Candiani claimed a “possessed mindset” and said he made a “pact with the devil” to be a “minion.” He confessed to an “unhealthy obsession” that “overpowered” him.
Convicted But Partly Cleared
On October 3, the jury found George-Candiani guilty on two counts of collecting material likely to be of use to terrorists under Section 58(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000. He was cleared of two other charges.
