Shanklin Fire Station called to Tumble Dryer Fire

Firefighters from Shanklin on the Isle of Wight have been called to a property on the Shanklin Esplanade this morning. The crew and one appliance were mobilised just after 10.20am on Tuesday morning to Fisherman Cottage on Esplanade to a smoking tumble dryer. Two firefighters were committed into the property in breathing apparatus to remove the smoking dryer into the open air. The crew then used a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove smoke from the property. A water fire extinguisher was also used to put out smoke clothing with the dryer. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is understood that towels were left in dry overnight and spontaneously combusted. Due to the swift attendance of the firefighters to the property damage was kept to a minimum We’re working on bringing you the latest updates on this breaking news story.
