A shocking video has emerged showing a speeding Volvo S40 colliding with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) on the M2 on July 3, 2022. The crash, which occurred at high speed, left a passenger with life-changing injuries.

Rochester driver Arron Bond, who was behind the wheel of the Volvo, has been sentenced to two years in jail, suspended for 18 months. Bond also received a two-year driving ban and has been ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

The court heard that Bond was driving recklessly on the M2 when he lost control of his Volvo S40 and crashed into the back of the HGV. The impact was so severe that the passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered permanent, life-altering injuries.

The judge presiding over the case condemned Bond’s dangerous driving and the lasting impact it had on the victim. However, considering Bond’s remorse and other mitigating factors, the judge opted to suspend the prison sentence.

Mr. Bond’s actions on that day were not just a case of poor judgment but a blatant disregard for the safety of his passengers and other road users,” the judge stated. The consequences have been devastating, and while the court acknowledges his remorse, the sentence reflects the gravity of his actions.

In addition to the suspended jail term, Bond must complete 100 hours of unpaid community service and is banned from driving for two years. He will also have to undergo a driving course before being eligible to have his license reinstated
