South Croydon Collision Man Suffers Life-Changing Injuries after being assaulted and hit by Van – UKNIP

Police have launched an investigation after a man was seriously injured in a road traffic collision in South End, Croydon on Saturday afternoon (16 August).

Emergency services were called at around 4.10pm to reports of a collision involving a van and a 40-year-old man.

The man was treated at the scene before being rushed to a London major trauma centre, where he remains with potentially life-changing injuries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed:

“We were called at 16:07 to reports of a road traffic collision on South End, Croydon.

We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an Advanced Paramedic, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

Our crews treated a person at the scene, before taking them to a London major trauma centre.”

The Metropolitan Police said enquiries suggest the victim may have been assaulted prior to the collision, which may have caused him to fall into the path of the van.

The driver of the van was spoken to by officers at the scene but has not been arrested.

A police cordon was put in place, with road closures leading to heavy traffic disruption and bus diversions through South Croydon into Saturday evening.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward. A Met spokesperson said:

“Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5026/16Aug.”

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
