Travel Chaos Expected as Spanish Cabin Crew Strike Confirmed and European Transport Disruption Looms – UKNIP

British holidaymakers heading to Spain this month face major disruption as the Spanish trade union Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) confirms a three-day cabin crew strike starting Tuesday, 25 June 2025.

The walkout, involving 657 crew members and 21 aircraft, will hit key Spanish airports including Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, and Majorca, amid an escalating dispute over wage increases and working conditions.

The strike will impact travel on June 25, 26, and 27, with thousands of travellers—particularly from the UK—expected to face flight delays, cancellations, or knock-on disruptions due to aircraft being grounded in Spanish airports.

Italian General Strike to Hit Airports and Trains

In a separate development, Italy will see a 24-hour general transport strike from 9pm on June 19 to 9pm on June 20, affecting airports, trains, and public transport across the country. The strike includes baggage handlers and ground crew, increasing the risk of delays and luggage issues for passengers flying in and out of Italy.

The strike has been organised in protest over wages, working hours, and public service funding.

Finland Strike Grounds Flights

Meanwhile, in Finland, hundreds of flights have already been cancelled due to ongoing industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union, affecting 6,000 Finnair passengers. Additional strikes are expected to take place on June 19, causing further European-wide air travel disruption.

Travellers Urged to Check Flights and Plan Ahead

Passengers planning to travel during these dates are advised to:

  • Check with airlines for the latest flight updates

  • Allow extra time at airports

  • Consider alternative travel routes or dates

  • Monitor official airport and union announcements
