Suspected Wine Thief Arrested at Heathrow Airport

A man suspected of stealing over 3,500 bottles of wine from a vineyard near Sevenoaks has been arrested while attempting to board a flight at Heathrow Airport.

The arrest is linked to a burglary that occurred between August 25 and 26, 2024, at a property in Church Street, Shoreham. Thieves reportedly forced their way into the premises and stole wine stock valued at £106,000.

Arrest at Heathrow

On Friday, November 15, officers apprehended a 27-year-old man from Romford, Essex, at Heathrow Airport. The suspect was detained before he could board a flight bound for Latvia.

The arrest follows a detailed investigation by detectives into the high-value burglary, which targeted a significant portion of the vineyard’s inventory.

Investigation Ongoing

The man remains in custody as officers continue their enquiries. Police are working to trace the stolen wine and identify other individuals who may be connected to the theft.

A police spokesperson said:
“This was a substantial burglary with a significant financial impact. We are determined to hold those responsible to account and recover the stolen stock.
