Swift Response by WSFRS Chichester Red Watch: Tree Collapse Incident

This morning, (Sunday 7th January 2024) the dedicated firefighters of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s (WSFRS) Chichester Red Watch, in collaboration with fire engines 44P1 and 44P2, sprang into action in response to a critical incident involving a tree that had collapsed onto a car.

The quick and effective response of the emergency services undoubtedly played a crucial role in mitigating the potential risks associated with such incidents. Upon arrival at the scene, the highly trained team, equipped with their Heavy Rescue Tender (HRT), immediately assessed the situation and devised a plan to safely extricate the trapped occupant.

The firefighters worked with unwavering determination, skill, and precision, ensuring the safety of the individual within the vehicle remained the top priority. Their efforts paid off as they successfully freed the trapped occupant from the vehicle.

Following the extrication, the individual was promptly handed over to the capable hands of the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SeCamb) for the necessary medical attention and care. The collaboration between the fire service and ambulance service is a testament to the seamless coordination of emergency responders in ensuring the well-being of those affected by incidents like these.

While the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, the immediate response by WSFRS Chichester Red Watch and their fellow emergency services undoubtedly made a significant difference during this critical incident.

Our thoughts are with the individual involved, and we extend our gratitude to the dedicated firefighters and emergency responders who continually put themselves in harm’s way to protect and assist the community in times of need. Further updates on the incident will be provided as they become available.
